On Monday we asked you to update your profile pictures with the ubiquitous HRC equality logo washed in red, and we’re overwhelmed with the response.
As it is wont to do, the Internet has taken our logo and remixed it time and time again.
Here are the HRC…
太陽という名前のねこ
10年ほど前に住んでいたアパートの近くに、下宿をやっている家があった。木の茶色い引き戸が珍しくて今でもその外観をよく覚えている。
ある日、その引き戸に一枚の貼り紙が貼られた。近づいて読んでみれば、どうやら下宿人の同居ねこがいなくなってしまったらしい。迷いねこを探していると書いてある。
連絡先の下宿人の名前は東欧を想起させるものだった。発音がとてもむずかしそうに思えた。
『猫を探しています。名前は太陽（TAIYO）です。』という大きな文字の下には、ねこの顔の写真。そして、その写真の下には、『この猫は大変愛されています。』と書いてあった。
つたないが、丁寧に書かれた太い文字には妙に訴えかけるものがあって、これを見た誰もが「太陽が早く見つかればいいのに」と心から思ったであろう。
その後。
迷いねこがどれくらいの確率で帰ってくるのかはわからないが、太陽はちゃんと見つかったのである。赤い首輪をして下宿のまわりを歩いている姿はうちのねこにそっくりで、違うとはわかっていても、会うたびに驚いたものだ。
太陽はいま、下宿人と一緒に、どこか外国で暮しているのかもしれない。もしかしたら、寒い国のひとだから「太陽」なんて名前にしたのかな、とも思う。
From Winners of the National Geographic Photo Contest 2012, one of 14 photos. Grand-Prize Winner: The Explosion! The subject’s name is Busaba, a well cared for Indochinese Tigress whose home is at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Thailand. I had taken many portraits of Busaba previously and it was becoming more and more difficult to come up with an image that appeared any different to the others. Which is why I took to observing her more carefully during my visits in the hope of capturing something of a behavioral shot. The opportunity finally presented itself while watching Busaba enjoying her private pool then shaking herself dry. In all humility I have to say that Mother Nature smiled favorably on me that day!
